#milechallenge2014 April report

April 30, 2014

Sadly, we only got around to one adventure this month. If it had to be any where with anyone I'm so glad it was this one. We were in Catalina with family and had a morning off, so we gathered up the cousins and headed out to explore. If you didn't already, you can read more about our hike here.

April was a whirlwind of events, and we are lucky we were able to squeeze in this hike. We knocked out 2.5 miles total during our adventure. It makes me happy that my cousins and brother were super excited about getting outside and being apart of our challenge. It makes it a lot more easier to get outside and be active when you have good company!

Running Total: 39.1 + 2.5 = 41.5

#milechallenge2014 March report

March 31, 2014

During March, we hit the 1/3 way mark. We were able to explore some new trails and venture out of our comfort zone during March. You can read about our Griffith Observatory hike here. We also had a week off of school for spring break that we took advantage of. We headed down to San Diego for a day and revisited one of our favorite hikes down there (will blog about later). Also, we ventured up to San Luis Obispo for a couple days and hiked one of the most beautiful trails I have ever been on (more pictures to come). Lastly, we took the dogs on a walk together (something Travis usually does by himself when he is home) and counted that.

We are really enjoying the fact that this challenge is making us do research into new hikes and explore places we would never have gone before.

Running Total: 26.8 + 12.3 = 39.1

#milechallenge2014 February report

February 28, 2014

February is done and in the books. I can't believe how quick this school quarter is flying by! Finals are here in two weeks! This month was especially busy for Travis, he was in Arizona for a weekend of racing and at local tracks two other weekends. This makes it tough when we are both super busy during the week, and he has stuff going on the weekends. Luckily we both have Monday's off, so we take full advantage of them.

During this month we were able to head up to Big Bear for Valentine's day and explore a new hiking trail. Other than that, we did our usual route around the neighbor hood. It has been so nice outside lately (sorry for everyone else in the country!) that we were able to log 12.3 miles this month.

Running Total: 14.5 + 12.3 = 26.8miles

#milechallenge2014 January report

January 31, 2014

This month we kicked off Mile Challenge 2014 with the goal of logging 100 miles for the year 2014. You can read more about it here. We were able to log 14.5 miles for the month of January. Eight of those miles were hiked and 6.5 were just by walking around the neighbor hood. I love this goal and can see us adapting it into our lifestyles for years to come. Before this goal we would occasionally go on a walk or hike, but when the goal in mind now I see us getting out more often. It's not too late to set your own goal and join in on the fun!

I don't do well with new years resolutions. I do much better with goals. Specifically measurable goals. On our first hike of 2014, we challenged ourselves to log 100 miles in 2014. We are a pretty active couple and know that this goal will probably be accomplished before the year is over, but we wanted it to be attainable, as every goal should be! But also, we aren't always together and we both have a pretty busy year ahead of us. If we are to hit 100 miles before the year is out-great, we will keep going to see how far we can get. If for some reason we don't quite make it, we will evaluate and adjust our goal for next year.
I posted the above picture on instagram with our new bold intentions (what better way to keep a goal than a public social media declaration!) and instantly got friends and family on board with their own goals. Biking, hiking, running, swimming or walking-the challenge is for you to adjust it to your own physical abilities and hobbies. If you instagram, follow along and join us in using the hash tag #milechallenge2014. In addition, I will be posting monthly updates here on our progress! I can't wait to see where this challenge takes us!
